From 1983, when I first became interested in violin making and restoration, I took my first tentative steps in the repairing of violins. From the very start, I learned that any work done needed to be 'reversible', so that any future restorer could easily undo it, so that they could do their bit!
Eventually, I felt the need to express myself, and the only real way to do this was by making a violin, and my first turned out well (my daughter plays it), so that sealed my fate! After a few years of making violins, I decided to make a classical guitar, which my son now plays.
After deciding to undergo professional training, I studied as a full time student at the highest-regarded School in the world, The International School of Violin Making & Repair, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England, where I studied under some of the 'English School' contemporary greats; Patrick Jowett, Peter Smith, Paul Harrild, Paul Gosling, Robert Cain, Kerry Boylan & Susanna Sillberg, between them possessing more knowledge and experience than you could ever wish for.
